David Appelrouth, M.S.W, R.S.W., EMDR Therapist
Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Iam David Appelrouth, a registered social worker in Ontario with over a decade of experience helping individuals navigate life’s emotional, psychological, and relationship challenges.
About Me
I’m passionate about helping individuals and couples navigate life’s challenges and make meaningful changes. With a background rooted in empathy, curiosity, and clinical expertise, I work collaboratively with my clients to uncover what’s not working and to cultivate greater clarity, connection, and resilience.
I am trained in EMDR therapy, a powerful and widely recognized approach to treating trauma. Endorsed by the World Health Organization, EMDR is one of the most effective therapies for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and other emotional struggles. What makes it unique is that it doesn’t require clients to relive or speak in detail about painful memories. Instead, EMDR helps the brain reprocess those experiences in a way that feels safer, less overwhelming, and more manageable.
In addition to EMDR, I incorporate Parts Work, influenced by Internal Family Systems (IFS), to help clients explore the different aspects of their inner world. When we experience emotional distress—whether it’s anxiety, depression, trauma, or inner conflict—it’s often because different “parts” of us are reacting in different ways. One part may want to grow, while another part feels stuck or fearful. Parts Work provides a compassionate framework to explore these internal dynamics, allowing us to move toward healing by understanding and integrating each part with care and curiosity.
For clients dealing with addiction, I use a blend of Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative and client-centered method that builds intrinsic motivation for change, while CBT focuses on identifying and shifting the thought patterns and behaviors that reinforce addiction. Together, they help clients regain a sense of agency, clarity, and purpose.
When working with couples, I rely heavily on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Grounded in attachment theory, EFT helps partners rebuild the secure emotional connection at the heart of a healthy relationship. Rather than just focusing on conflict resolution techniques, EFT gets to the root of emotional disconnection, helping partners shift long-standing patterns, heal ruptures, and strengthen their bond.
